The Dazzling Journey of Russ
From the moment Russ first stepped onto the stage at just nine years old, it was clear a star was in the making. His early summers were spent captivating audiences in summer stock productions, and by his teens, he was already gaining recognition for his extraordinary talent across Colorado, performing with a variety of groups and leaving a trail of admiration in his wake.
In 1987, Russ took his ambitions to the entertainment capital of the world—Las Vegas. There, he became a sought-after instructor at the Osmond's Performance Academy, sharing his expertise in tap and jazz. His journey soon led him to California, where he danced for Princess Cruises, before returning to Las Vegas to collaborate with the renowned Jackie Jaeger at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Together, they brought to life iconic productions such as Kiss Me Kate, Oklahoma, and Best Little Whore House in Texas. Russ also partnered with acclaimed choreographer Donna Washington, dazzling audiences in shows for Penny France Productions throughout Nevada.
A pivotal chapter unfolded when Russ became the protégé of tap legend Henry LeTang. Over a decade, he absorbed LeTang’s masterful techniques, assisted in staging and production across Las Vegas, California, and Colorado, and earned the rare privilege of teaching LeTang’s celebrated curriculum and choreography. Russ further honed his craft under the guidance of esteemed vocal coach Kenneth Kamal Scott from New York.
His versatility shone as he performed in industry productions with luminaries like James Coburn, danced alongside Billy Vera and the Beaters, and lent his voice to the Pointer Sisters.
As lead dancer for the Country Star Cafe in Las Vegas, Russ shared the stage with country music royalty—Reba McIntyre, Vince Gill, and Tracy Lawrence. These experiences inspired him to step into the spotlight as a producer and choreographer, creating unforgettable events for the Las Vegas community.
In 2000, Russ returned to Colorado, becoming an integral force in the tap program at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. Drawing from a lifetime of artistic adventures, he continues to produce, choreograph, and sing for the Center and organizations throughout Colorado, enriching the local arts scene with his boundless creativity.
